Treatment for Depression

LEARN MORE

a path forward, even when it feels dark

What is Depression?

Depression (also known as Major Depressive Disorder) is a common but serious mental health condition that affects how a person thinks, feels, and functions in daily life. It is characterized by persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and a loss of interest or pleasure in activities once enjoyed. Depression is more than temporary sadness. It is a medically recognized condition that can impact energy levels, sleep, appetite, motivation, relationships, and overall quality of life. It can affect teens and adults and may range from mild to severe.  Depression can develop due to a combination of biological, psychological, and environmental factors, including genetics, brain chemistry, trauma, stress, and major life changes.

How Can Therapy Help?

Talk therapy is a key component of effective depression treatment and recovery. It helps individuals gain deeper insight into their thoughts, emotions, and behavior patterns while developing practical tools to support long-term emotional well-being. Through depression therapy, individuals can build healthy routines and habits that support mental health, learn effective strategies for managing difficult emotions, improve communication, and navigate relationships with greater confidence.

Our Approach to Depression Treatment

At Purposeful Pathways Inc., we provide evidence-based, personalized depression treatment for teens and adults. Our approach integrates multiple therapeutic modalities to support meaningful, sustainable change in mood, thinking patterns, and daily functioning.

We use a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and Positive Psychology–informed interventions to help clients reduce depressive symptoms and build long-term emotional well-being.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is one of the most effective, research-supported treatments for depression. CBT focuses on identifying and changing unhelpful thought patterns that contribute to low mood, hopelessness, and self-doubt. By shifting negative thinking patterns, individuals can improve emotional responses and daily functioning.

Solution-Focused Therapy helps clients move beyond feeling stuck by focusing on strengths, resources, and possibilities for change. Instead of concentrating solely on problems, this approach emphasizes identifying personal strengths and past successes, setting realistic, meaningful goals, and creating small, achievable steps toward progress. This approach can help build momentum and foster a sense of hope and forward movement.

Positive Therapy draws from principles of positive psychology to support emotional resilience, meaning, and life satisfaction. Depression often narrows focus toward negative experiences; this approach helps expand perspective by Identifying personal strengths and values, increasing gratitude and emotional resilience, and encouraging engagement in meaningful and rewarding activities. Over time, this can support greater balance, purpose, and emotional well-being.
